List now, verify at payout

Thumper uses a deferred-verification model. You can accept the seller agreement, create listings, and start accruing earnings right away. The heavier verification steps — full identity checks and your tax form — only need to be finished before money actually moves to your bank.

The idea

Getting a product in front of buyers should not wait on paperwork. So the marketplace splits the journey into two gates: an accrual gate you clear early, and a payout gate you clear before your first withdrawal.

Earnings you accrue before finishing verification are not lost. They sit in your balance and become withdrawable once the payout gate is satisfied.

The payout gate

Before any earnings are paid out, every one of the following must be true. This gate is checked at payout time, so completing the missing pieces later simply lets the batch pick you up:

  • Stripe payouts and transfers are enabled on your connected account (identity verification complete).
  • Your tax form is collected — Stripe collects the W-9 (US) or a W-8 series form (non-US) during onboarding.
  • No active trust-and-safety payout hold on your account.
  • Your account has not been disconnected, and any recent bank-account change has cleared its cool-down.
  • Sanctions screening is clear and your seller agreement acceptance is current.
If your tax form is later marked invalid (for example, an IRS name/TIN mismatch), payouts still proceed but with 24% backup withholding until you correct it.

Reading your dashboard

Your seller dashboard shows honest status chips so you always know what is blocking a payout:

Payouts

“Verify to get paid” means you can accrue but have not finished onboarding. “Enabled” means Stripe has cleared you.

Tax info

“Tax info required before payout” with a “Complete tax info” button takes you to Stripe to finish your form. “Tax info on file” means it is collected.

Key Takeaways

  • List and earn first; finish verification before your first payout.
  • The payout gate needs Stripe KYC AND a collected tax form AND no holds.
  • An invalid tax form triggers 24% backup withholding until corrected.
  • Nothing you accrue is lost while you finish verification.
