Convert any image into a textured 3D mesh using TripoSG, running locally for game dev and 3D printing.
What is TripoSG?
TripoSG is an open-source image-to-3D model that converts a single photograph or AI-generated image into a textured 3D mesh. The output is a standard OBJ or GLB file you can import into Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, or send to a 3D printer.
Requirements
- GPU: 12 GB+ VRAM (16 GB recommended)
- Storage: ~6 GB for model weights
- Input: A single image with a clear subject and minimal background clutter
Installation
Install TripoSG from the Thumper-Run catalog. The model pack system downloads the required weights and the GPU detection system configures the optimal precision for your card.
Generating a 3D Model
- Upload an image (PNG or JPG)
- TripoSG removes the background automatically
- The model generates a 3D mesh with texture in 30–120 seconds
- Preview the result in the built-in 3D viewer
- Export as OBJ, GLB, or STL
Tips for Best Results
- Use AI-generated images with clean backgrounds—they tend to produce better meshes than photographs
- Front-facing subjects work best. Profile views or heavily occluded subjects produce worse geometry.
- Combine with ComfyUI: Generate a character in ComfyUI, then convert it to 3D with TripoSG
- Post-process in Blender: TripoSG meshes often need minor cleanup (non-manifold faces, UV tweaks)
Use Cases
- Game development – rapid prototyping of characters, props, and environment assets
- 3D printing – convert concept art into printable models
- Virtual production – generate 3D assets for AR/VR scenes
- E-commerce – create 3D product views from photographs
Workflow Integration
A powerful local pipeline:
- Generate a concept image with ComfyUI or Fooocus
- Convert to 3D with TripoSG
- Texture and rig in Blender
- Import into your game engine
All steps run on your machine. No cloud uploads, no per-asset fees.
